HjerteStop-"Aarh, fuck... Der Er Hjertestop!" EP

Another classic on Kick'N'Punch records (this blog is slowly turning into a blog split evenly between Japan, Denmark and PDX I think.... hmmm.). This is a perfect mix of the APA style retro hardcore tuneage plus some of those melodies/hooks from the other KNP/HJERNESPIND bands. I like how the band photo is superimposed to make them look like they are rocking out in front of some blown out building complete with coffins/skeletons. Also a nice back cover photo of a bare-assed punk wearing a leather jacket featuring... a bare-assed punk wearing a leather jacket! Groovy. Best song title: 1-800-SUICIDE-CLUB.... please make sure to call that number if you like to listen to crap like GOOD CHARLOTTE.

Incontrollados-"Hvem Vil Det Gavne?" EP

Excellent hardcore punk on the Kick'N'Punch label (R.I.P.!!!) from 2001 (not sure but that's the recording date at least). This is more along the lines of AMDI PETERSENS ARME meaning that it's straightforward U.S. style hardcore as opposed to the more "punky" stuff coming out of Denmark at the same time.... this is just as good in my opinion as APA but for some reason no one ever talks about this band or EP much. Maybe no one likes the cover since it looks similar to that REPLACEMENTS album cover? Anyways, check out the boss guitar sound and FYI "Det er OK at vaere grim" translates to "It's OK to be ugly". Close your eyes and imagine it is 1981......

No Hope For the Kids - "Angels of Destruction" 7"

Second 7" from NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS which came out some time after the other I uploaded here. In my opinion this one's not as strong as that first 7" but it's still probably better than most punk records put out in the last few years anyway.... Still with the WWII theme and the B side again (in the old days the "hit" was on side A while the B side was a bit of a throwaway track... guess someone forgot to tell NHFTK and the label Backwards Masking) is stronger than side A. It's very reminiscent of THE MISFITS and will get stuck in your head. Seriously, one of my favorite bands.... so what the hell happened?! Did they break up or what?? I needs more songs!

Gorilla Angreb/Lokum - "Split In Half" 7"

Split 7" on the Hjernespind label from a few years back with a 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' theme running throughout both bands songs. The GORILLA ANGREB track (the reason why I'm sure most people bought/own this) was re-released on the discography LP/CD so that's fairly easy to get ahold of and you already know whether you like them or not so we'll focus on the flipside. LOKUM's first song is a so-so instrumental but the 2nd song is pretty good.... very KBD type punk complete with added chainsaw sound effects. The haunting little guitar melody is good sounds for chasing someone with a chainsaw until they jump into a moving truck and get away. Then all you can do is wave your chainsaw angrily in the air as they speed off....

Amdi Petersens Arme-"S/T" ep

Killer hardcore punk from Denmark on KickNPunch records. This opened my eyes to all the great punk/HC coming out of Denmark (No Hope for the Kids, Gorilla Angreb, Young Wasteners, Asbest, etc..). When I first heard this I wasn't sure if this was a reissue or this was a modern band... the recording on this sounds like all the great hc records from the 80s. Their 2nd 7" is also crucial.... I'm so glad I got to see them live when they came to the States. I heard there will be a discography LP soon? I hope so and I hope it's got some unreleased stuff on it.

No Hope For The Kids - "Das Reich/Secret Police" 7"

You can't go wrong with this band... excellent melodic punk from Copenhagen. Side A is excellent especially the sound of the boots stomping away in the middle of the song.... However the B side is the song on here that really brings home the bacon... from the beginning where the bass warbles in to the guitar solo that sounds like it was played underwater all the way to the end. Punk perfection!
