GAME OVER MAN

Too busy to bother with this shit (as you can see). I haven't ripped any vinyl in months. Since the last update I bought a house, got a dog, and went back to school.... too much shit going on.

I had stuff already ripped that I never posted so maybe I'll just post all that stuff (minus artwork and reviews) in one big list (Seanocide style).

Later!

Blah

No updates in a while.... taking a few classes (finally trying to go back to school again) and super-busy with the puppy and the usual stuff to do at work/home.

Finally got another turntable though that is hooked up to the PC so maybe at least that will help things.

Will post more stuff soon.....

Tantrum - "Una Verita Nascosta" 7"

Italian-styled hardcore from Japan released by Overthrow records. Not my favorite release on the label but the vocalist does a good job of making the vocals sound like something coming out of Italy in the 80s. It's funny how the Japanese punks have been aping all the different hardcore sounds/countries in the last few years. Hopefully, they'll eventually do some early Colombia/Mexico raw punk type of stuff.... enough of the Swedish/Finnish/Italian stuff has been done already.

Limp Wrist - one sided 12"

New(ish) 12" from Limp Wrist. Picked up a limited version of this 12" when they played L.A. at the end of 2008.... I guess they ran some "test presses" for their Japanese tour. Anyways, it was a cool show except for the idiot tossing a bottle at the guitarist and splitting his head open. At least he was cool enough to finish the show.... After the crowd pointed out the moron who threw said bottle it seems they were going to kill him but Martin saved his ass by telling them to not kick his ass and to just throw the fucker out. Very nice of him.

I like this 12" a lot since their new(ish) guitarist seems to be showing off his chops more on these songs (which also sounded really good live). I didn't care too much for the last 7" but something about this 12" stood out to me.... songs are tighter/faster and the guitar playing stands out more. Check it out.

Neurose Urbana - "Vivendo, Sofrendo E Morrendo!" 7"

First 7" from this d-beat/raw punk band from Brazil released in 2000 on a Finnish label. One of my favorite new (-ish) bands from Brazil... wish they would've released more of this quality stuff on vinyl. Just as good as the best stuff from BESTHOVEN but for some reason they never got the hype. They also have a really good 2nd 7" and a so-so (in my opinion.... but I think I need to go back and hear it again) 12" along with lots of demos and some comp appearances.

The Fastbacks – “… and His Orchestra” LP

Some pop punk from Seattle to offset all the other stuff that's normally posted on here.... I couldn't find a CD download of this so I ripped this for myself mostly. Maybe someone else might be interested in this.... very underrated band in my opinion. One of the few Seattle bands that was there before and after the whole grunge thing blew up after Nirvana but never really got as popular as some of those other (lame) bands. It's funny to hear them talk about the whole "grunge" explosion in the movie "Hype".

They had a few EPs before this but I believe this is their first full-length. All of their albums have at least a few amazing songs... catchy as fuck songs with bubblegum vocals and really cool guitar parts.

Life - "Master of Darkness" 7"

2nd 7" (still need to find a copy of the first 7"!!!!....) from Life from Japan. Good heavy crusty punk.... also check out the LP here. They've been around a long time and finally released a new 3rd 7" a few months back which I just got the other day but I ain't really digging it. Like this stuff a lot more. Either way, I'd probably go apeshit if I ever got the chance to see them live.

Nerveskade/Mundo Muerto live

Saw Nerveskade (PDX) again last night along with Mundo Muerto. Nerveskade blew me away again.... Drummer tears it up and they manage to combine their noisy/blown out guitar sounds really well with their bouncy bass.... hard to explain I guess (for some reason I think about RIPCORD and [early] GAI while watching them) and must be experienced live. Super bummed that they had no new music to buy (I bought a button) since I had heard they had a "test press/tour version" of some 7" or something at the beginning of their tour. Guess I'll have to wait for the regular release....

Still haven't really unpacked so I haven't been working on recording any vinyls.... have some stuff I've already uploaded to mediafire that I just need to type out tracklists for/find pictures. So.... more stuff coming soon. I promise!

V/A - "Histeria" LP

Excellent LP compilation released a few years ago on Lengua Armada. One of the few compilations of recent years actually worth listening to since it's not just throwaway tracks from the bands. Plus, it's got a really nice newspaper type insert with full photos of the bands and a Lengua Armada discography. Remember when bands use to give good songs to compilations? Not just "demo" or "live" versions of already released songs.... Anyways, my favorite stuff on here is the LIMP WRIST, LIFE'S HALT, and DEATHREAT stuff. Although by now you can get the LIMP WRIST and DEATHREAT tracks on their respective discography CDs, the tracks are nice to have on this LP with the full artwork/lyrics. Plus, "The Ode" is probably the best song LIMP WRIST ever wrote... As of this point there is still no LIFE'S HALT discography so I guess this is your only chance to hear this stuff right now. I'm pretty sure the DS-13 and SEEIN' RED tracks are already on some CD by now as well since they have discography CDs too. ESPERANZA sucks but if I knew Steve Aoki was going to end up partying with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan I probably would've made an effort to be his friend back then.... yeah right. Also worth mentioning is the rap part on the SIN ORDEN tracks.... Ugh.

Final Massakre - "The Bells of Hell Toll the Final Chime" 7"

Six track 7" of PDX "Full Metal Jacket D-Beat Raw Punk" from 1999 released by Tribal War Records. I think Frank/ATROCIOUS MADNESS was in this band (I remember hearing/reading this before somewhere plus it has the same P.O. Box that ATROCIOUS MADNESS used and LEBENDEN TOTEN currently uses) but not sure to what extent. Vocals sound a little similar to ATROCIOUS MADNESS but who knows.... someone please fill me in as to who does what in this band as there are no members listed anywhere on the cover or lyric sheet. As good as any of the other PDX stuff like MASSKONTROLL, BOMB HEAVEN, or BLOOD SPIT NIGHTS so you should already know whether you'll dig this or not. I like how they named a song "Probability of Deaths Construction" after DISCHARGE's "Possibility of Life's Destruction".... They also had a split 7" with DECONTROL.

Moving....

In the middle of moving and fixing up the house I just bought. The only reason why anything has even been posted on here in the last couple of weeks is because I had a stockpile of ripped stuff (which is now dwindling...) and I scheduled them to automatically post.

Hopefully my records (and tapes!) will finally be out of the garage soon and ripping stuff will be more frequent/easier.

Looking forward to some good shows finally happening in April/May.... AI/WARCRY, HJERTESTOP, SKITKIDS, and DESTINO FINAL. Holy shit!

Deathcharge - "Plastic Smiles" EP

3 track one-sided 7" of DISCHARGE (duh) worship from PDX released on Distruction Records. When I play this I'm filled with the urge to sing along using DISCHARGE lyrics because the songs sound totally familiar.... reminds me very much of INFIERNO DE COBARDES, meaning it's like hearing DISCHARGE songs replayed but with new lyrics. "Plastic Smiles" is a good fist-pumper but I think I like this band's more recent "The Hangman" 7" more.

Final Bloodbath - s/t 7"

Total DISCHARGE worship from Japan (as if you couldn't tell from the cover and band name) but something about this band makes them stand out a bit for me more than those other D-Clones (not ragging on D-Clone.... have yet to hear them actually). Nice reverb on the vocals and it's played with good energy.

This was released on PAANKLEVYT (PAANK 010) and comes on nice thick clear vinyl. Of course they also have another 7" on Crust War and ended up evolving into FINAL. Inner sleeve also features very cute photos of the two female members posing for the camera.... Ha!

Defector - "Ultra Noize Violence" 7"

Noisy as fuck debut 7" from Defector from Japan (Crust War 014). Pretty insane how much people are paying for this record now.... 2nd 7" is much better but they're still a bit overrated in my eyes. I prefer LIFE and FRAMTID myself.... I do like the fact though that one guy plays "METAL PENIS" while another member plays the "NOISE PENIS." Both are very hard instruments to master.

This came as a bonus 7"with Crust War Zine #8. The pictures above are actually from a "cover" that's inside the zine itself as the 7" was just in a white dust sleeve. So I guess you were supposed to cut it out and use it for the cover (even has dotted lines along where you're supposed to cut) but I just made a xerox copy and put my 7" in that because I'm a fucking nerd and I don't cut up zines/records like that.

In other news.... I got some cool ass BLACK FLAG and X buttons from the 80s and also a cool STITCHES button in Pasadena along with a ton of Kurt Vonnegut books for $1 a piece.

Stuff that I'll post soon = more PDX stuff (DEATHCHARGE, FINAL MASSAKRE) and more Japanese stuff (FINAL BLOODBATH, DEFECTOR 1st 7").

Life – “The World Lies Across Them” LP

Excellent crusty hardcore from Japan with a drummer doing some serious rolls all over every track. These guys have actually been around and playing in Japan for years now (probably going back to the early 90s?) and are still currently active. Solid Japanese hardcore/punk (with some occasional hints of metal wankery) that I could see Japanese kids thrashing around to with huge smiles on their faces. This LP was released probably around 2000 but I think I picked mine up a few years after that from Stuart Schrader's excellent distro (what happened to Crust War USA?). Released on the band's own Punk Bastard records. Check it out and I'll also try to upload the 7" I have from them.

Laukaus – “Mika On Tuolla?” EP

Six tracks of hardcore Finnish punk by way of Japan released around 2002 or so. The Japanese are the kings of reproducing musical styles and then spitting them back at us...... This actually could almost pass as a punk record from Finland (and definitely sounds better than most modern Finnish punk). I know they also had a 12" (which I plan on posting up soon too) and another 7" which I, unfortunately, do not own. Oh well. Enjoy.

HjerteStop-"Aarh, fuck... Der Er Hjertestop!" EP

Another classic on Kick'N'Punch records (this blog is slowly turning into a blog split evenly between Japan, Denmark and PDX I think.... hmmm.). This is a perfect mix of the APA style retro hardcore tuneage plus some of those melodies/hooks from the other KNP/HJERNESPIND bands. I like how the band photo is superimposed to make them look like they are rocking out in front of some blown out building complete with coffins/skeletons. Also a nice back cover photo of a bare-assed punk wearing a leather jacket featuring... a bare-assed punk wearing a leather jacket! Groovy. Reality Crisis/Avskum - "Waiting For Another Bloodbath" split 10"

Split 10" released a few years back on Answer Records (Japan). I think this one's a little tough to find nowadays..... Anyways, I'm not a fan of AVSKUM (or much current punk from Sweden with the exception of TOTALITAR or SKITKIDS) and I really only own this and bothered to upload it for the amazing REALITY CRISIS. I listened a bit to AVSKUM while recording this and it sounds like later period POISON IDEA to me (not that that's a bad thing just sayin'...). REALITY CRISIS is total blown out Japanese dual-vocalled crust/hardcore that mixes noisy peace punk with maybe DOOM/E.N.T. (but not total DOOM worship stuff like fellow Japanese crusties ABRAHAM CROSS). REALITY CRISIS was also really great live... one of their singers is a fuckin' maniac!

Incontrollados-"Hvem Vil Det Gavne?" EP

Excellent hardcore punk on the Kick'N'Punch label (R.I.P.!!!) from 2001 (not sure but that's the recording date at least). This is more along the lines of AMDI PETERSENS ARME meaning that it's straightforward U.S. style hardcore as opposed to the more "punky" stuff coming out of Denmark at the same time.... this is just as good in my opinion as APA but for some reason no one ever talks about this band or EP much. Maybe no one likes the cover since it looks similar to that REPLACEMENTS album cover? Anyways, check out the boss guitar sound and FYI "Det er OK at vaere grim" translates to "It's OK to be ugly". Close your eyes and imagine it is 1981......

Repercussions - “11 Songs” 12"

11 song 12" EP released on 540 Records out of Texas in 2007 (I think?). One of them supergroups that only gets together every so often to record and play shows since some of the members live in different parts of the country. Features the guitarist from DEATHREAT and the vocalist from cult band COLD SWEAT..... which pretty much ends up sounding like the perfect mix of both bands. I could definitely see these songs having ended up on a DEATHREAT release.... straight-forward US hardcore with pissed off vocals and angry lyrics.

I saw these guys play at Chaos in Tejas 2007 but the best memory I have related to this band is the singer of REPERCUSSIONS playing "bodyguard" for some shitty band called DROPOUT on the first night of the fest. It was their "reunion" show even though I had never heard of them.... and with good reason since they really sucked. Anyways, while DROPOUT was playing the vocalist from REPERCUSSIONS was standing on the stage with his arms crossed and rocking a tough guy pose while protecting the band or something. Eventually, everyone in the audience got sick of the crappy band and their stupid lame vocalist..... someone grabbed a trashcan and threw it square at the singer's face (I guess they were in a GORDON SOLIE type of mood? They were a little early since they weren't playing until 2 nights later....). The funniest part though was when the singer for DROPOUT got popped in the face, Mr. Bodyguard (REPERCUSSIONS vocalist) busted out laughing at the dude too. Once he realized he was supposed to be serious or something he busted out his angry face again and went back to playing bodyguard. Good times.....

Born Dead Icons -"Modern Plague" ep

4 Track EP from 2001 (shit... has it been that long?) from these Canadians. 1st EP and LP from this band are so-so (still have their moments though) but after that everything is AMAZING. Most reviews label them as AMEBIX + MOTORHEAD and I can see where that comes from but it's much better than that in my opinion. Much more melody and AMEBIX is beyond overrated.... sorry but it's true. This is the sound of driving around in a post-apocalyptic world fighting some buff dude in a hockey mask for gasoline. Anyway, I guess this is OOP now and I don't think it's on any of their CDs.... great cover of the WIPERS' "Doomtown" too. Check it out and also check out COMPLICATIONS (hoping to upload the demo soon...) which features some members of BORN DEAD ICONS.

Fuck On The Beach - "Live at Fiesta Grande #7" CD

Live CD released by the band on their own label, Killed By Fast Records. I'm not a huge fan of later/current FOTB but I still stand behind their early stuff (1st 7", split w/Carcass Grinder, and their stuff on that 4x7" box set "Tomorrow Will Be Worse"). I didn't even care much for their first LP on Slap A Ham (even though it contained re-recordings of many of the songs off their earlier releases). Anyways, this CD is in my collection (I don't care for CDs.... even less live ones) mostly because I was at this show so it's a cool document of a show I attended. Plus, I was a huge fan of them at the time. It was a fun weekend (bought so many records.... plus got to see LACK OF INTEREST, CAPITALIST CASUALTIES, SPAZZ, FOTB, etc...) and this ended up being the last "Fiesta Grande" (and the only one I ever got to attend). It was so awesome to make the drive up north (or take the Greyhound as we did a few times) and see amazing bands at Gilman and buy a shitload of records.... don't really do that anymore or at least I haven't in a long time. Anyways, check it out. You already know whether you like these guys or not.

FYI, it's just one long track since all songs pretty much meld into each other but here's the listing on the back:

Blah pt.2

Updated the trade list. A couple of things are gone (hopefully the dudes sending don't flake) and I also added a few more things I found that I have for trade that I missed for some reason.

Final Conflict – “The American Scream” 7”

Four track 7" of metallic hardcore/punk from Final Conflict released around 1992 or so on Nemesis Records. I know they were originally around in the mid to late 80s so I'm pretty sure this is their first release after getting back together (unless they never broke up?). I don't know but I must've seen them live all around SoCal at least a hundred times around between 1996 to 1999 or somewhere around there. Not sure about the rest of the band but at least Ron the vocalist and Jeff the guitarist were part of the original lineup so it was still fun times..... I think they re-recorded most of these songs for their 2nd LP Rebirth (which is also good) with the exception of the last track "A Mind Is...". One of my favorite records but I'm sure I'm a little biased due to seeing them live so much in my younger days.

1. The American Scream
2. Inhuman Nature
3. Territorial Rites
4. A Mind Is…

Religious War-"S/T" ep

3 track 7" of PDX punk (although only 2 songs are listed on the back cover). This is Religious War's 1st 7" and although I prefer the 2nd 7" "Asylum" (raw perfection!) this is still worth checking out. This is on Spent Round Records and has some nice artwork on the inside sleeve of studded jackets, automatic rifles, and dildos (punk!). Members are now in ROTTEN CADAVER and I'm sure were in a bunch of other PDX bands... will someone please build a PDX punk band family tree? Anyways, check it out and check out their 2nd 7" which can be found here.

Bomb Heaven-"S/T" EP

3 Track 7" of PDX hardcore punk... not much to say except that if you are a fan of BLOOD SPIT NIGHTS, DOG SOLDIER, MASSKONTROLL (this reminded me of them for some reason...), and those millions of other PDX punk bands then you'll probably enjoy this. I guess this was originally on Doomsday records and then repressed on Black Water? I didn't think they were around anymore but apparently there is an LP coming out soonish on Black Water so who knows?

1. Warfear
2. In The End
3. Prisoner For Life

Blah/Trade List

Gonna try to post all the remaining stuff originally on Lalo's blog soon just to get it out of the way (don't know why I even started... probably should've just left it there but I'm very anal and feel the need to have all my crap here together on one blog). Besides that stuff, I have a few EPs and surprisingly a few 12"s (one CD release even!) to post soon so there'll be plenty of stuff coming. I just wish I had a scanner.... either I steal photos found online or take them with a digital camera (which don't look too good).

Life's Halt - "We Sold Our Souls For Hardcore" EP

First 7" released by Life's Halt from L.A. I can't even count how many times I saw these guys live... for a while it seemed like they were on every good show happening in SoCal. Shows at the PCH, LaFayette, Koo's Cafe, Headline, The Smell, etc... definitely one of the best bands live and a great bunch of dudes (well at least Ernie and Felix... never really talked to the other dudes although I did see Charlie at a bachelor party years later for a mutual friend). Musically, it's fast hardcore bordering on that straight-edge sound (which makes sense since some of those dudes were heavily into SxE for years) and even reminds me of YOUTH OF TODAY due to Ernie's vocal style.

I never thought the records did them much justice, kinda tame compared to their live sets. Not that I don't like the band but I just don't play their records too often because I think they were recorded/produced pretty poorly. There is none of the intensity that their live shows had. Maybe if you never saw them live or heard their recorded music before actually witnessing them live.... For me, it was the other way around. I saw them play a ton of times before finally listening to the demo and the records. Anyways, check it out.

Zone - "Win Back To Sanity" EP

Raging Japanese hardcore from 1994. Pretty straightforward ... just a vicious punch to the face. They also have another full 7" entitled "First Blow is Half the Battle" that I believe is also on HG-Fact (I'll try to rip that one soon too...) and and LP with some kind of futuristic tattooed dinosaur on the cover (?) that should be easier to find since it's a little more recent and it was released through a US label (Partners in Crime). Plus I'm sure they are on a whole bunch of comps. I will never see/own.

Infierno De Cobardes - "Ciudad Monstruosa" 7"

4 Track 7" of total DISCHARGE worship from Spain released a few years ago. I swear this dude just took Discharge songs, re-recorded/played all the instruments himself and then created some new lyrics in Spanish. It's actually a one-man band featuring Teodoro (who was also in DESTRUCCION, OTAN, and I think SIDA too?) who is a total D-beat fanatic.... this is the 2nd 7" I think but I have yet to hear the 1st one.

LEBENDEN TOTEN new stuff + live

Just got back from the 2nd of two LEBENDEN TOTEN shows. Playing the new LP as I type this.... probably my favorite thing they've done so far (although the first 7" is pretty high up there too...). Seriously, the song 'Near Dark' is soooo fuckin' good. I fell in love with the song live and even though I've already sent out for the LP through the mail I bought another copy today from the band just so I wouldn't have to wait to listen to that song again. Fuck! This band sounds so much tighter live now than the last time I saw them (about 3 or 4 years ago?). The pogo parts fucking kill too. Big thanks to Gus for having the band play these two shows locally before flying back home to Portland after their Japan/Australia/New Zealand tour. Also, fellow PDX band NERVESKADE was really good too. Got their demo and I'll be sure to pick up their vinyl releases as they come out.

The Vomits - "Reckless Cow!" EP

Another post originally from Lalo's blog (I didn't know I had recorded this much.... still it's good filler in between the other new recordings)

Great flexi of really catchy punk rock from Japan on Stomping Records (Stomping Record 005). I don't know anything at all about this band except that my brother got it from a pen pal in Japan he was trading Misfits stuff with.... I think it was his band. So I guess this is from around the late 80s... no date listed on the record. If anyone knows where to find more stuff from the Vomits.... please share! The last track even ends with a bomb blast (which always scores big points with me). One of my most prized records.

Kruw - s/t 7"

Japanese punk on Partners in Crime (PIC 023) released a few years ago. From what I can remember this was originally released as a CD (or CD-r demo) in Japan and Partners in Crime was nice enough to press it to vinyl for us geeks. If I remember correctly they only pressed between 500-1000 and it sold out pretty fast. It's a little different than what I would normally expect from this label. It's more on the "fastcore" JELLYROLL ROCKHEADS/EXCLAIM/FUTURES side of the Japanese punk world.... most of the other releases on this label tend to fall towards the more "traditional" Japanese sounds (ie ROCKY AND THE SWEDEN, ASBESTOS, ASSAULT, etc..) but it's still really cool even though I do tend to prefer the traditional style myself. Plus, it's a cool ass cover with Japanese punks wearing leather and one's even packing a bazooka! Looks more like a poster to a sequel to BURST CITY or WILD ZERO. The only downer? The fake OBI strip on the cover. It's printed on the cover. Not a real OBI strip.... sigh.

Persevere - "Panic Land" LP

First vinyl release by PERSEVERE (I think...) on Insane World Records. This was released sometime in 2003 and is really good Finnish-type punk from Japan. I'm not sure if that's what they were going for since they don't have Finnish song titles like their contemporaries LAUKAUS and POIKKEUS but they have that out-of-control/bass guitar can barely keep up with the rest of the band sound that makes me think of Finnish punk. They also have at least two full 7"s that are also worth checking out.

Another re-post from Lalo's blog.....

1. Panic Land
2. Silent Political Organization
3. Propaganda
4. No War
5. Irrationality

No Hope For the Kids - "Angels of Destruction" 7"

Second 7" from NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS which came out some time after the other I uploaded here. In my opinion this one's not as strong as that first 7" but it's still probably better than most punk records put out in the last few years anyway.... Still with the WWII theme and the B side again (in the old days the "hit" was on side A while the B side was a bit of a throwaway track... guess someone forgot to tell NHFTK and the label Backwards Masking) is stronger than side A. It's very reminiscent of THE MISFITS and will get stuck in your head. Seriously, one of my favorite bands.... so what the hell happened?! Did they break up or what?? I needs more songs!

Beggars can't be choosers....

Hmm.... I noticed while listening to some of my recordings in the car that some of them have some 'clicking' noises. I guess I was fooling around with other shit on my PC while recording this stuff. I guess I'll try to fix it later and in the meantime I'll replay everything I haven't uploaded to make sure it doesn't sound all fucked up. If there's too much of that shit going on I won't bother too upload it like that.... I haven't found anything major so far though (mostly on some stuff I recorded for myself that I wasn't even going to upload anyway and two other tracks have like one 'click') and you fuckers just freeload the music (without any comments!!!) so beggars can't be choosers.

D-Starve - "Destroy A Person's Dreams Destroy A Person's Hopes" 7"

Good Japanese hardcore 7" from 1992 out of Nagoya. "Limited Edition 500 Copies" according to the back of the sleeve and this was most likely released by the band since it is Destroy and Starve:03. Interesting cover art of some dude (or girl?) holding some skulls possibly after their hopes and/or dreams were destroyed? Features Hiro (C.F.D.L.) on backing vocals.... I'm pretty sure they also have a split 7" but I don't own it. Maybe someday.....
